Environmental Issues
Environmental Issues are reality - We are the first generation to understand the impact of global climate change and the last generation that can make a difference for the future.
Our family lives in a passive solar home and nearly all of our appliances are energy star rated. This is a conscious choice in living to do our part to help reduce our carbon footprint. We recycle as much as we can and bring it to the recycling containers in Hudson. We have progressively changed our light fixtures to CFL bulbs, turn lights off when leaving the room, use surge protectors and turn them off when not in use. I am sure there are many other simple things we do to be responsible environmental citizens but it is so much part of what we do daily, that it is hard to list them individually.

Clean water is one of our biggest environmental challenges. I will work to strengthen our water pollution reduction strategy and ensure that plan has the resources to succeed in our lifetimes.
* If the consensus of 97 percent of scientists is not enough, all we need to do is trust our five senses to know that climate change is real. We are experiencing the volatile weather and other impacts every year. With our leadership in renewable energy, including wind energy, Iowa is in an ideal position to help our country wean itself from our dependency on fossil fuels, which spew carbon pollution into the air. I will work to double down on Iowa’s commitment to energy efficiency and clean energy, including policy support for and investments in solar power, so Iowa can do its part not only to combat climate change, but also to create new jobs, build our economy and keep our people healthy.
